Residential Sharps Collection Program

The Vermilion County Health Department is now offering residential sharps disposal! The program is designed to give the residents of Vermilion County a safe method of disposal for sharps. The sharps collection kiosk is located outside the front doors of the health department.

The following items can be accepted:

  • Needles
  • Syringes
  • Connections needles
  • Lancets
  • Infusion sets
  • Epi Pens
  • Insulin Pens

All sharps must be in a container with a lid or an empty puncture resistant, non-see-through capped bottle like those used for laundry detergent or bleach. Do not use containers that can be easily punctured or break such as a bag, water bottle, milk container, soda can, or glass bottle.

Please do not place loose sharps in the kiosk. Also, please do not place medications, aerosol cans, inhalers, liquids, garbage, hazardous chemicals, and waste in the kiosk.

The Vermilion County Health Department does have a limited number of quart-size single use sharps containers that residents can take home, fill up, and return to the sharps collection kiosk. Call 217-431-2662 ext. 5 if you have further questions.

This program has been made possible by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Residential Sharps Collection Program grant.
