The Technology Services Department was created to provide
technology support for all the County offices.
The Technology Services Department started in 1982 with one employee
and an IBM System 32 mid-range computer which was
upgraded to an IBM System 36 soon after.
In 1985, the County Board decided to expand the
department, and in late 1985 hired a Director (then
called a Data Processing Manager). As time went
on, the need for information technology expanded and
more employees and systems were added.
Presently we have 5 employee positions and manage over
250 personal computer with 8 servers. We maintain an IBM AS400 for our mid-range platform. The AS400 handles the Real Estate
Property Tax System, County Voter Registration System,
Danville Voter Registration System, County Election
Judge System, Danville Election Judge System, County
Voter Absentee System, Danville Voter Absentee System,
Financial Systems, Economic Interest System, Asset
Inventory Management System, Public Defender Client
Database System and a Coroner Information
Database System. The Technology Services
Department also uses the AS400 to track and document
work orders for the Technology Services Department.
Our use of personal computer platforms has exploded with
over 250 personal computers, both stand alone and networked.
We utilize Windows 2000 and
Windows XP operating systems.
We have completed the task of networking most of the
Vermilion County government departments to be able to provide each user
with high-speed internet access and e-mail.
Our
services, for the most part are offered
free of charge to all Vermilion County
government offices. Please review our
SERVICES page to
get an idea of the wide range of services
we provide.
